One Direction adalah boyband Inggris-Irlandia, yang terdiri dari  Niall Horan, Zainal Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles dan Louis Tomlinson. 

Mereka menyelesaikan ketiga pada seri ketujuh dari The X Factor. Setelah The X Factor, kelompok menandatangani kontrak rekaman dengan Syc

Setelah The X Factor, mereka menandatangani kontrak  £ 2.000.000 rekaman dengan Syco 

One Direction dan sembilan kontestan lain dari reality show berpartisipasi dalam TourX Factor Live dari Februari-April 2011 . Tur terakhir berhenti di Inggris dan Irlandia.

One Direction membuat penampilan di The Alan Titchmarsh Show pada tanggal 4 April 2011 dan Malik menegaskan single perdana mereka akan dirilis pada bulan Juni 2011. Rilis tunggal didorong kembali ke Agustus dalam rangka bertepatan dengan peluncuran seri baru X Factor,  dan kemudian kembali sampai September. . Sementara di acara itu, mereka juga menegaskan bahwa merekaadalah duta baru untuk Pokémon.  Pada tanggal 29 Juli, band ini membuat penampilan pada Alan Carr: Chatty Man.

Mereka mengembangkan album debut mereka dengan Savan Kotecha  dan merilis single debut mereka "What Makes You Beautiful" pada tanggal 11 September 2011.  yg ditulis oleh Carl Falk, Savan Kotecha dan Rami Yacoub. Untuk pertama kalinya "What Makes You Beautiful" diputar pada 10 Agustus di BBC Radio 1, dan sudah pre-order rekor penjualan Sony Music.

Pada tanggal 26 September, One Direction mengumumkan debutnya dan mereka tur di Inggris,  dari Desember 2011 sampai Januari 2012.
